Day One - many helping hands

I am so tired and so happy with all that we did today. Over the course of the day 30 friends came and went, cooked, ate, talked, knitted, drew, sewed, and covered more than half of the car with fabric! We had great weather (for November) about 50 degrees and mostly sunny. Caitlin and Emily came with home made goodies: egg, casseroles, muffins, and quiches. The amazing Kathy and my mom Sally made sure everything ran smoothly all day.
Richard, Janet, Natan, Dave and I started sanding the primer and used silicone in a caulk gun to hang the language puzzles along to lower portion of the car.  So many people stopped by from all parts of my life. California - New York - Johns Hopkins - Beit Tikvah.  Six degrees of separation became 2 degrees very quickly - got to love Smaltimore! Diana, Jen, Ellen, Lee Ann, two Beths, Emily, Mary Jo, Ruth, Jane, Chris, Suzie, Mimi, Judy, Porter the dog, Reid, Paige, Leonard, and Xander.
Everyone signed and decorated a quilt square to be used on the interior of the car. Abby, Sally, and Maya spent most of the day sewing them together.
Peter made a huge pot of farmers market vege soup and the hot mulled cider bubbled away.
Hannah's best buddies Tess and Grace stopped by before the Poly-City game and Ella and Ada worked really hard on the back of the car. Steve, Mike and Zeke covered a lot of car with a good eye for color and detail.

Holly, Larry, and Bob the dog drove over in the Aloha car and added a lot of art car expertise. As the day faded away Debbie wowed us all with a great spread of appetizers wine and cheese. Trust me - no one was hungry all day.  Neighbors Key, Suzanne, and Maria stopped by the say hello - John, David, & Robin pitched in even though their property values will plummet when I park this car in front of the house.

At twilight we stepped back to admire our work from a distance and were so happy to see the carzy quilt color scheme blend beautifully from lights to dark: whites, blues, greens, and purples.  I fall into bed thrilled to get an extra hour of sleep tonight when the clocks are turned back and another day of art car making is ahead of me.

  3. It was a lovely weekend and I'm hoping you are asleep by now. I am waiting for you to post pictures of the finished car, I don't want to pre-empt you on Facebook.
